3 Tips for a Better Mindset About Exercise
Do you feel like you’re constantly battling to achieve your health and fitness goals?
Does it feel like a struggle to make exercise a regular part of your routine? You’re not alone. I know it’s not easy to find the motivation to sweat it out and work hard. Our brains and bodies are hard wired to seek the path of less resistance, to seek the easiest route and avoid exertion at all costs – cheers for that evolution! On the other hand, exercise is vital to our health & wellbeing now more than ever and we must do what we can to ensure we live our healthiest lives. And that ladies, takes us to today’s topic.
The right mindset to have about exercise:
When I say ‘right’ I don’t mean that there’s a right or wrong mindset to exercise. I just think that there’s a mindset you can have that’s more conducive to exercise and physical activity. Obviously if our mindset is not aligned with our ultimate goals, it doesn’t matter what fad fitness plan you buy or how motivated you might feel, it’s just not going to work!
So let me share with you three of my fitness philosophies which I hope will provide you with a new and unique perspective on exercise and fitness that you can take with you today.
- Your body is built to move. It is meant to be moved daily, by design to continue to adapt and strengthen, carrying you through life.
Think of your body as water (after all, it is over 70% so). When water flows it creates energy and with that momentum can get stronger and stronger, but when water is stopped, it gets stagnant and its quality decreases – so too does your body!
- There is no time or day in the future where you can just stop exercising, having reached some arbitrary goal. Exercise or rather, movement, is the never ending road towards an enhanced quality of life. At the end of the day, exercise is part of the continual pursuit to live your life to the fullest & live with a quality of life that is inspiring & empowering. So keep moving because there is no giving up on the road to a healthier you.
3. Exercise is not a chore, it is a choice. A choice to become a fitter, stronger, healthier version of yourself, and who wouldn’t want that?
Why should movement be something that we dread? Why should we feel like it’s a chore to go to the gym? Choice is one of the most powerful attributes we have as humans, so harness this power and choose to move more. We all know how important exercise is for our health & wellbeing, we all know how much better we’d feel, we just haven’t shifted our mindset to reflect this knowledge.
Knowledge is power but the power of choice is freedom.
